La presenza della squadra austriaca quasi al completo e di atleti americani, francesi e sloveni ha reso la 26a Gitschberg Start Cup una vera gara internazionale, ma i mattatori sono stati 2: Ivan Nagler tra gli junior e Ludwig Rieder tra i senior, che hanno messo a segno una doppietta vincendo sia il singolo sia il doppio.
Pur non essendosi piazzato tra i primi, il Campione del Mondo Wolfgang Kindl ha dato lustro all'evento. Siamo consapevoli del fatto che il suo punto di forza siano le ottime capacità di guida e siamo sicuri, che sarà grande protagonista anche nella stagione appena cominciata.
Interamente italiani i podi del singolo maschile: Ivan Nagler, Fabian Malleier e Lukas Gufler tra gli junior e Ludwig Rieder, Dominik Fischnaller e Patrick Rastner tra i senior. 4i Leon Felderer (J) e Kevin Fischnaller (S), 5° Emanuel RIeder (S).
Nelle competizioni femminili il gradino più alto del podio è stato conquistato dalla Francese Margot Boch tra le junior e dall'americana Emily Sweeney tra le senior, ma anche le azzurre si sono ben comportate: 2e Verena Hofer (J) e Sandra Robatscher (S), 3a Andrea Vötter (S), 4a Nina Zöggeler (J) e 5a Marion Oberhofer.
"Da quest'anno abbiamo deciso di far gareggiare alcuni Junior nei gruppi sportivi militari" ci ha detto Davide Carrara, Maresciallo del Centro Sportivo Carabinieri - Selva di Val Gardena e Auronzo di Cadore. "Per quanto riguarda lo slittino, questo passo è in un certo senso un'ufficializzazione del vivaio, di cui ci occupiamo da anni, dal momento che lo staff della nazionale è composto quasi interamente da militari. Non si tratta di una garanzia di un futuro arruolamento, ma di una specie di opzione, di una manifestazione di interesse per gli atleti più meritevoli e che hanno già ottenuto risultati di prestigio. In questa stagione, quindi, il Campione Olimpico Junior 2016 Lukas Gufler correrà per il Centro Sportivo Carabinieri". Il compagno di doppio di Lukas, Felix Schwarz e Fabian Malleier gareggeranno per il Centro Sportivo Esercito.
La nuova stagione vedrà anche alcuni cambi di allenatore. A seguito della partenza per la Cina di Norbert Huber, nuovo allenatore degli atleti del Celeste Impero, suo fratello Willi è tornato a far parte dello staff della nazionale maggiore. A prendere il posto del più giovane dei fratelli Huber, sarà l'ex atleta austriaco Manuel Pfister. Era dagli anni '90 che un coach straniero non seguiva i nostri atleti.

The new season will also see some coach changes. Following Norbert Huber's departure for China, as new trainer for the athletes from the Celeste Empire, his brother Willi returnes in the senior team's staff. To take the place of the younger of the Huber brothers, there will be the former Austrian athlete Manuel Pfister. It is since the 1990s that a foreign coach did not follow our athletes.
